Now you can rename the PrinterSwitch Printer files (in the PrinterSwitch Printers folder, which is inside the Preferences folder.) Files have reasonable names (instead of "Printer 1", "Printer 2", etc.) and the file names are displayed in the PrinterSwitch menu.
• Printer Status Display
Now you can see what your printer is doing, before you print! PrinterSwitch will check the status of LaserWriter and similar (networked PostScript) printers, and display a printer status line within PrinterSwitch.
•Arrow-key selection of printers
Now you don't have to use the mouse! The up and down arrows will cycle through your list of printers in the PrinterSwitch dialog.
• Smarter handling of LaserWriter 7 and 8 PPD files
PrinterSwitch will detect when you are using different PPD files with a single printer, and it will automatically create new PrinterSwitch Printer files to reflect the new settings. This makes it easy to set up several different settings for a single printer, each using a different PPD file.
• Better handling of low-memory situations
PrinterSwitch 1.1 beta 1 would occasionally present an error message (error -108) when operating in low-memory situations. 1.1 beta 2 should eliminate this problem.
• New PrinterSwitch Printer file format
This means you will have to throw out your PrinterSwitch Printers folder and "re-learn" your printers.
• Simpler startup code
Newly rewritten startup code is much simpler, should be more compatible with a wider variety of system extensions and Macintosh configurations.
• New Creator Type for PrinterSwitch
This solves an unfortunate creator type conflict. If PrinterSwitch does not display an icon in the Finder, you may need to rebuild your desktop.
